| No one seems to have referred to Slovenia in this forum as a holiday destination. We discovered it in 2006 and found it ideal if you enjoy family outdoor activities. We love the views, the walking, fishing, rafting and skiing. Its a lot cheaper than France and we really like the local people. The most popular area for tourists is probably around Lake Bled followed by the lake around Bohinj. The relatively high prices (but which are still cheaper than most of Europe) reflect the popularity of this area and we prefer to go to the heart of the country in the Savinja valley where its a bit more 'authentic'. Although there are thousands of popular rural bars, it is probably not ideal if you like lots of 'sophisticated' night life.
We like Slovenia so much we bought a house there with a view to retiring one day. We have started letting it out now and you can see it at http://heronsplace.com/
