| Hi everybody,
We've been to Italy many times (Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Rome and much more), but last October we went for the first time to Sicily. We had rented a holiday home called Casa nell'antico baglio via www.on-sicily.com. When we arrived in Sicily we were picked up by a friendly driver who drove us to a car rental agency in Ballestrate. There we were greeted by the Dutch couple that runs on-sicily.com and we followed them to the holiday home. The house is located in a square construction with a large 'courtyard' with a large tree. The house itself was very nice: we had a fire place, a wood burning oven in the kitchen (where we made our first pizza!) and a big terrace. We spent a lot of time there, reading and sitting in the sun (we were lucky to have sunny days for the whole holiday).
We visited several beautiful towns and were impressed by the Cathedral of Monreale and the archeological parc in Selinunte. We had a great walk in a nearby nature reserve (beautiful view!) and enjoyed several Sicilian dishes. It was certainly as good as the Tuscan cuisine! We got several vouchers and itineraries for certain restaurants and one of them, the Tarantola, we liked the most: on-sicily had organized a wine tasting and a special menu for us with typical Sicilian and local dishes. The waitress was very nice and from what we understood, her mother was the one doing the cooking.
Palermo was also nice, we visited the cathedral and the theatro massimo and ate something we had read was a typical local dish: pane con la milza. Not really my cup of tea, but my wife loved it. I myself was more fond of the panelle which you can buy in a bun.
Although we already loved Italy, Sicily really stole our hearts!
